About Queens Game

Queens Game is a free, independent site for playing Queens logic puzzles — a new daily challenge, a permanent archive, and a library of more than 1,800 verified boards.

What Queens Game is

Queens Game is a free, independent website for playing Queens — a pure-deduction logic puzzle played on a coloured grid. Every board asks the same thing of you: place one queen in each row, each column and each coloured region, and make sure no two queens ever touch, not even diagonally. There is no chess knowledge required, no timer forcing your hand, and no scoring system to game. There is just a grid, a set of constraints, and exactly one arrangement that satisfies them all.

The site exists because we wanted somewhere to play this puzzle type properly: unlimited boards rather than one a day, a real archive rather than a puzzle that vanishes at midnight, and no account wall between a visitor and a game. Everything on the site is playable immediately, for free, without registering.

What you will find here

There are three main ways to play. The daily challenge publishes a new board every day at midnight UTC — the same puzzle for everyone, so you can compare notes with other players. The daily archive keeps every past challenge permanently playable, which means missing a day costs you nothing and you can work back through the history whenever you like.

Beyond the dailies, the puzzle library holds more than 1,800 generated boards across six grid sizes, from quick 7x7 grids up to demanding 12x12 ones, each rated easy, medium or hard. Every board in the library has its own page with a written analysis of that specific grid: how the colours divide it, which region is most constrained, which rows and columns are most contested, and where a sensible solve should begin.

Alongside the puzzles there is a how-to-play guide covering the rules from scratch, a strategy guide covering the techniques that experienced solvers rely on, and a level builder for constructing and sharing your own boards.

How the puzzles are made

Every puzzle on this site is generated by our own algorithm and then verified by a constraint solver before it is published. The verification step matters more than the generation step: it confirms that each board has exactly one valid solution, which is what guarantees you never need to guess. A board with two solutions would force a coin-flip somewhere, and a board with none would waste your time entirely. Neither ships.

The generator also grades each board. The difficulty rating is not arbitrary — it reflects measurable properties of the grid, such as how lopsided the region sizes are, whether any region is confined to a single row or column, and how few colours touch the tightest line. Those same measurements feed the written analysis on each puzzle page, which is why the commentary differs from board to board rather than repeating a template.

Who runs the site

Queens Game is a small independent project, built and maintained by one developer rather than a company. It started as an open-source hobby project and grew as more people began playing it. There is no team, no investor and no roadmap dictated from outside — features get built because players ask for them.

The site is funded by display advertising, which is what keeps every puzzle free and account-free. We try to keep advertising unobtrusive and confined to content pages, and we explain exactly what advertising partners collect in our privacy policy.

Independence and affiliation

Queens Game is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to LinkedIn, Microsoft, or any other company that publishes a puzzle of this type. We are an independent fan project. All puzzles here are produced by our own generator, and the site name, design, written guides and per-puzzle analysis are our own original work. The underlying rules and logic mechanics of the genre are not themselves copyrightable, which is what makes an independent implementation like this one possible.

Feedback and corrections

If you find a board that behaves incorrectly, a guide that is wrong or unclear, or an advertisement that is intrusive or inappropriate, we want to know. Reports of that kind are genuinely useful and we act on them. The contact page explains how to reach us and what details to include so that a problem can be reproduced quickly.
